Just like the shit beer Carlsberg, GURL is probably the best song in the world. Remember the first steps towards this wonderland of a song, It was summer 17` and i was living with two Georgian girls waaay out in Pankow.
We had no wifi which was a blessing so i spend most of the time just punching on my guitar, and suddenly came this riff. At first i thought it was the rhythm guitar for Twin Peaks` "Stand in Sand", which it actually kinda is, but somehow managed to turn it into my own and quite fast i realised that something enchanting was in the making.
I did then, as i often do when i compose songs, i recorded the main guitar on my zoom recorder and went for 1001 night walks, listening to the riff over and over and over again, trying to come up with some kind of vocal melody that would fit. The song unfolded slowly throughout a year and Forrest added the "Dot above the i" when we recorded the synth aka massive saws, that really kicked new life and energy into the song in the autumn of 2018. Heeey GUUURL!
GURL is a melancholic love song. Taken straight out of the real world. As 1+1 equalled 3 and i fell in love for the first time, curious and hungry.
Teardrops down my cheek, in a smiling, grateful, happy and very much an oatmeal kinda way. Thank god, bby im alive.
